Community Food Project (CFP) - Our new project to do a community food assessment and engage the Bitterroot community in a Planning Process to build a secure local food system.

Community Food Security Coalition - (CFSC) is dedicated to building strong, sustainable, local and regional food systems that ensure access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food for all people at all times. We seek to develop self-reliance among all communities in obtaining their food and to create a system of growing, manufacturing, processing, making available, and selling food that is regionally based and grounded in the principles of justice, democracy, and sustainability.

Ecology Action -Teaching people worldwide to better feed themselves while feeding the soil and conserving resources. For the past 31 years, Ecology Action has been researching, developing and sharing millenia-old techniques for growing more food in a small area, using simple tools and seeds, while maintaining or increasing the health and productivity of the soil.

Friends of the Trees Society - Michael Pilarski's site.   Michael has extensive knowledge in organic farming, seed collecting, wildcrafting medicinal herbs, plant propagation, agroforestry, and is THE permaculture instructor for the Pacific Northwest.

Global Ecovillage Network -  The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) links and supports sustainable settlements.  An Ecovillage is a community of people who strive to live sustainably.   GEN operates mainly through the offices and volunteers of its three Regions:   GEN Europe and Africa         GEN Oceania              The Ecovillage Network of the Americas.

International Society for Ecology and Culture (ISEC) - Promoting locally based alternatives to the global consumer culture, ISEC is a non-profit organisation concerned with the protection of both biological and cultural diversity. Their emphasis is on education for action: moving beyond single issues to look at the more fundamental influences that shape our lives. This is Helena Norberg-Hodge's organization.

International Forum on Globalization - The International Forum on Globalization (IFG) is an alliance of sixty leading activists, scholars, economists, researchers and writers formed to stimulate new thinking, joint activity, and public education in response to economic globalization.    Representing over 60 organizations in 25 countries, the International Forum on Globalization associates come together out of a shared concern that the world's corporate and political leadership is undertaking a restructuring of global politics and economics that may prove as historically significant as any event since the Industrial Revolution. This restructuring is happening at tremendous speed, with little public disclosure of the profound consequences affecting democracy, human welfare, local economies, and the natural world.

Intentional Communities - This Web site serves the growing communities movement.  We provide important information and access to crucial resources for seekers of community, existing and forming communities, and other friends of community.

Kokopelli Seed Foundation   To promote seed consciousness: sharing of seeds and of seed saving traditions, partnership with seed-savers networks, to help rural communities in Third World countries, and more. Note:  they do not sell seeds.

The Land Connection - The Land Connection is working to create a food system that is truly sustainable --
*  that enables farmers to make a living without handouts, and  allows them to pass their farm on to the next generation
*  that connects food producers and consumers in a direct and compelling way
*  that preserves and enhances the quality of the soil, air, and water on which all life depend

LETSystems - A LETSystem is a community trading network supported by its own internal currency.  It is self-regulating and allows its users to manage and issue their own 'money supply' within the boundaries of the network.  The key points include: co-operation: no-one owns the network, self-regulation: the network is controlled by its users,  empowerment: all network users may 'issue' the 'internal currency', money: local "dollars", as a means of exchange, is an integral feature.

Missoula Community Food and Agriculture Coalition:  (CFAC) - a multi-stakeholder Food Policy Council that addresses community needs related to food and agriculture in Missoula County.  They started with a CFP grant, and are helping us with our CFP grant. Advocating and promoting organic agriculture for the highest good of the people, the environment, and Montana's economy.

Missoula Urban Demonstration Project (MUD) - The MUD Project is a non-profit organization in Missoula that provides tools for creating a sustainable community.   The MUD Project believes people can fulfill their present needs without compromising the needs of future generations by making careful and positive choices in the areas of food, transportation, shelter and waste.

MOA Montana Organic Association - Advocating and promoting organic agriculture for the highest good of the people, the environment, and Montana's economy.

Native Seeds/Search - Native Seeds/SEARCH is a nonprofit conservation organization based in Tucson, Arizona. NS/S works to conserve, distribute and document the adapted and diverse varieties of agricultural seed, their wild relatives and the role these seeds play in cultures of the American Southwestern and northwest Mexico.

National Center for Appropriate Technology - addressing complex issues of housing, economics, and environmental quality, training farmers, monitoring energy use, demonstrating renewable energy technology, testing new products and providing information on building construction are just a few of the many ways that NCAT has contributed to fostering healthy communities and a better quality of life for everyone. 

Organic Seed Alliance - Organic Seed Alliance, a nonprofit public charity, supports the ethical development and stewardship of the genetic resources of agricultural seed. We accomplish our goals through collaborative education and research programs with organic farmers and other seed professionals.   Through advocacy,  education and research we work to restore and develop seed varieties for current needs while safeguarding invaluable genetic resources for future generations.

Orion Online: The Orion Society's programs, magazine and publications seek to inform, inspire and engage civil society in becoming a significant cultural force for healing nature and community.

Permaculture Activist magazine - information on permaculture design, edible landscaping, bioregionalism, cooperative action, aquaculture, natural building, earthworks, renewable energy, practical solutions to the challenges of Real Life, and much more. We provide a current listing of upcoming permaculture design courses and a valuable global networking directory linking students to teachers and information, homeowners to designers and consultants, homeseekers to community, and hope and help for all who desire a healthy happy planet that cares for it's people.

E.F. Schumacher Society - The E. F. Schumacher Society, named after the author of Small Is Beautiful: Economics As If People Mattered, is an educational non-profit organization founded in 1980. Our programs demonstrate that both social and environmental sustainability can be achieved by applying the values of human-scale communities and respect for the natural environment to economic issues. Building on a rich tradition often known as decentralism, the Society initiates practical measures that lead to community revitalization and further the transition toward an economically and ecologically sustainable society.

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms  -  WWOOF-USA is part of a world-wide effort to link volunteers with organic farmers, promote an educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.
